Brooke Burkhalter, DVM
Currently practicing at St. John's Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Burkhalter enjoys all aspects of medicine, but has a particular love for the challenges of soft tissue surgery and has had advanced training in abdominal ultrasound and endoscopy. Dr. Burkhalter also has special interest in kidney disease and heart disease. These interests stem from several personal losses she has experienced. Dr. Burkhalter is an active volunteer at Georgia Sea Turtle Center and is helping to organize the opening of a local non-profit sea turtle rehab hospital at the Whitney Lab. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Burkhalter is happily married with a young daughter, Kacie. Other family members include Emma, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Lola Pickles, a French Bulldog, and 2 cats, Calliope and Pearl. Some of her favorite past times include running, kayaking, fishing, and Disney.
Lavonne Congdon, DVM
Dr. Lavonne Congdon completed her Bachelor of Science and her Doctorate in veterinary medicine from Univeristy of Florida, in the charter class of 1980. She owned her own mixed animal practice in Monticello, Fl for 10 yrs. She then moved to Tallahassee doing small animal practice and acupuncture. She then relocated to St. Augustine in 2001 where she worked for Dr. Gary Shelton until 2010. Currently, Dr. Congdon is working for Dr. Emmans at Atlantic Veterinary Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. Dr. Congdon has three children, and seven grandchildren.
Stephanie Crabb, DVM
Dr. Crabb has been in private practice at Jackson Veterinary Practice since 2001. She has a special interest in Internal Medicine and Oncology. She studied acupuncture and eastern medicine in Beijing , China as part of her veterinary college curriculum. She and her husband Rob are proud parents of their young daughter Hayden. When she is not caring for her patients she enjoys spending time readingand bike riding but most of all with her family. Dr. Crabb received her doctorate in veterinary medicine from Iowa State University in 2001.
Kathleen Deckard, DVM
Kathleen Deckard, DVMCurrently practicing at St. John's Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Deckard is a native of Jacksonville, Florida. She received her doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1999 from the University of Florida then joined the practice. She enjoys all areas of medicine and soft tissue surgery and has had advanced training in abdominal ultrasound. She has a special interest in exotic pet animals and also donates much of her time caring for injured and sick wildlife. When she is not caring for her patients, she enjoys spending time with her husband and her two toddlers. The rest of her family includes 2 dogs, Chelsea and Marlee, and her 3 legged cat, Soprano. In her free time she enjoys cooking, fishing, scuba diving and tennis.
Mark Gendzier, DVM
Mark Gendzier, DVMCurrently practicing at St. John's Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Mark Gendzier is a graduate of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. He draws on his many years of experience in small animal practice to act as Hospital Director of SJVC. As a senior surgeon and clinician, Dr. Gendzier directs the hospitals talented team of veterinarians. He has a special interest in the field of cancer medicine and innovative cancer therapy. Empathy and kindness are the hallmarks of care through which Dr. Gendzier believes we can see pets live happy lives with this difficult disease.
Norma Haupt, DVM
Norma Haupt, DVMDr. Norma has a BA in psychology from Hofstra University a MA in counseling in from Seton Hall University and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from University of Florida. She has worked with the canine Police dog program in North Carolina. She has attended the complete course in Canine Rehabilitation at the Rehabilitation Institue in Loxahatchee, Florida. She opened her office 3 years ago after doing an exclusive house call practice for 13 Years in St. Augustine. She does rehabilitation work as well as practices traditional medicine.
Sheila Lopez, DVM
Sheila Lopez, DVMSheila graduated from the University of Florida Veterinary School in 2004, and works for Matanzas River Animal Hospital. Sheila enjoys all areas of medicine and surgery, especially dermatology and soft tissue surgery. This St. Augustine native lives with her husband, beautiful children, horse and kitties.
G. Brad Mackenzie, DVM, Boardmember, At Large
G. Brad MacKenzie, DVMDr. Mackenzie is a Jacksonville native. He graduated from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. After graduating from UFCVM, Dr. Mackenzie traveled to Columbus, Ohio for a one year rotating internship. He then returned to Jacksonville to start his surgical training with Affiliated Veterinary Specialists for a one year surgical internship. He finished his surgical training in Columbus after finishing a three year surgical residency. Dr. Mackenzie joined Affiliated Veterinary Specialists, Orange Park in January 2009.
Anna Maxwell, DVM, Boardmember, Treasurer
Dr. Anna Maxwell was born in Wiesbaden, Germany and grew up traveling all over the world as military families do. She graduated from the Columbus State University with a B.S. in Biology and moved to Gainesville to work as a biological scientist at the University of Florida. She spent three years doing liver research under the direction of Dr. Meyer. In 1993 she received her D.V.M. degree from the University of Florida. There she was awarded the Wilson Scholarship in 1991 and the Summer Research Training Award in 1990. During her senior year she attended the University of Washington, studying Laboratory Animal Medicine. Prior to coming to Ark Animal Hospital, she practiced small animal medicine in her hometown of Gainesville. Although she enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, she has a special interest in soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, as well as reptilian medicine.
Hugh McClelland, DVM
Dr. McClelland joined SARVEC in May 2014 as a full time emergency veterinarian. A resident of St. Johns County since elementary school, he survived the December blizzard of 1989 and remembers when the Jaguars were actually pretty good. He graduated from Nease High School in 1997 and received his veterinary degree with honors from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. After a rigorous yearlong internship in South Florida and three years as an emergency vet in Gainesville, he is happy to finally be back in “The 904” with his wife Terri, daughter Picchu, son Hamilton and their two cats, Cedar and Zambrano.
Thomas McNicholas, Jr., DVM
Thomas McNicholas, Jr., DVMDr. McNicholas began his veterinary career 16 years ago as a general practitioner in St. Augustine, FL. In 1998, he was awarded an internship in Texas followed by a three-year residency at Purdue University. Prior to moving back to the First Coast, Dr. McNicholas was a staff surgeon at Palm Beach Veterinary Specialists for two years. He is the only full-time board certified veterinary surgeon in Jacksonville, and enjoys all aspects of veterinary surgery including soft tissue, orthopedic, and neurosurgical procedures. Dr. McNicholas owns, and is practicing at the Affiliated Veterinary Specialists, Jacksonville Veterinary Surgical Center, and on occasion you can find him at the Jacksonville Zoo performing surgery on some of the zoo's resident large animals.
Terri Rosado, DVM, CVA, CCRT
Dr. Rosado graduated from the University of California at Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005 and then completed a 1-year internship at UF's Small Animal Clinic in emergency medicine, internal medicine, and surgery, followed by certification in veterinary acupuncture. She worked as a full-time associate at a veterinary hospital in Palm Coast for over 3 years before accepting the position of Managing Veterinarian at SARVEC in 2010. She worked at SARVEC until 2012 when she opened Flagler Integrative Veterinary Cneter to continue her passion in preventive medicine, holistic healthcare, and rehabilitative medicine. Dr. Rosado holds membership in the AVMA, AHVMA, AARV, and IVPAM and teaches acupuncture labs at the Chi Institute in Reddick, FL. She enjoys the beautiful beaches of Florida, as well as providing a warm lap to her 2 cats, Connie and Charlotte, and playing with her 2 pups, Lily and Leisl.
Eric Searcy, DVM
Dr. Searcy was born in Deland, FL, and raised in Ponte Vedra Beach, one of six children. His love of animals lead him to Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation in 1977, he moved to St Augustine, where he has practiced ever since. He married Debra Alexander of St. Augustine and they raised three children together...Alex, Matt and Andrea. His other interests include surfing, fishing and music, playing banjo and dobro with a local group, "The Driftwoods."
Gary Shelton, DVM, Boardmember, Secretary
Gary Shelton, DVMDr. Shelton graduated 1985 UF College of Veterinary Medicine, and began practicing large and small animal medicine in Putnam County. He currently owns four hospitals in Putnam, St Johns, and Flagler Counties -- Shelton Veterinary Clinics. Dr. Shelton lives on a farm in Elkton with his horses and dogs, where he enjoya trail riding horses and bike riding. He also has a special interest in equine medicine and surgery and small animal surgery.
Perry Smith, DVM
Dr. Perry Smith practices veterinary medicine at Animal Health Center of East Palatka. He is a graduate of College of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University. He has a special interest in internal medicine and surgery. He and his wife, Jill, are the parents of two boys. Dr. Smith enjoys caring for his cows and horses and is a sports enthusiast.
Lanelle Wall, DVM
Dr. Wall was born in Blacksburg, VA., and grew up in Columbia, MS. She graduated with a B.S. from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1984, and continued her education at, and graduated from, Mississippi State University Veterinary College in 1988. Since 1988, she has been at the Animal Medical Clinic in Palatka, FL, where she is now the sole owner and practitioner. Dr. Wall is married to Wayne R. Annis, Sr., a General Contractor in Palatka. They have 3 children and 7 grandchildren. Her hobby is her grandchildren. She is a board member of the Rodheaver Boy's Ranch and support the PC animal control, SAFE Pet rescue, and the humane society.
Jeanine Wihbey, DVM, Boardmember, At Large
Jeanine Wihbey, DVMCurrently practicing at St. John's Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Wihbey attended the University of Florida graduating with a Bachelors in Animal Science, a Masters in Animal Nutrition, and finally a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2000. Her veterinary interests include preventative care, obesity management, and nutrition. She also has special interests in liver disease and diabetes management. She is happily married with three lovely daughters. Her family also includes dogs (a Labrador, a Chow mix, and a mixed breed she brought back from the Bahamas) and 1 cat. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, scuba diving, and seeing all the sites around St. Augustine with her daughters.
John Yselonia, DVM
John Yselonia, DVM John Yselonia, DVM was born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He attended The University of Georgia on a baseball scholarship and played minor league baseball with the Pittsburgh Pirates. After his baseball career ended he enrolled in the University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine. He interned at the North Florida Veterinary Specialist in Orange Park and at the West Ashley Veterinary Hospital in Charleston, SC. Upon graduation in 2000 he joined Dr. Searcy at Antigua Veterinary Practice in Saint Augustine, FL. He is married to the former Kim Reineke from Stone Mountain, GA. They have two children Blake and Kaylee. His outside interests include tennis, golf and watching sports.
