Jessy Barnes, Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT)
Jessy, and her family, relocated to Florida from West Virginia in June 2017, having spent nine years in veterinary medicine; over seven of which were as an emergency hospital administrator. After many years in
retail management, she decided to pursue her passion for animal welfare and became lead technician, and hospital administrator, of Animal Veterinary Emergency Treatment in Parkersburg WV. She was also highly sought after as a
fill in assistant with several local veterinary clinics in the Parkersburg area. Moving to the Florida beaches with her husband, two children, three cats, and their dog has been an absolute dream come true, and she is excited to
be part of the SARVEC team here in St Augustine.
Iva Pokorny, DVM
Dr. Pokorny relocated her 2 dogs (George and Fred), cat (Garlic), and 2 turtles
(Parsley and Cilantro) to beautiful St. Augustine from New York City for the beach life and to be closer to her newly retired parents. Born in the Czech Republic, she emigrated with her parents to the Bronx at age 8,
where she attended high school and eventually went to New York University to study Biochemistry. She was on the track toward medical school, even working at a gynecology/obstetrics practice for 6 years, but decided her
love of animals needed to be a part of her career. Her biggest influence, mom, was a zookeeper at the Bronx Zoo for the past 20 years. The house was always full of animals and she spent most of her time exploring outdoors,
which created a natural love of all creatures. Dr. Pokorny graduated Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in 2009, after which she travelled Europe for 2 months before taking a position at a small animal clinic in
Queens, NY. While working at this extremely high volume fast paced clinic, she lived in Brooklyn, NY in a small shoebox apartment with a great view. Although exciting, the city environment became overwhelming, and she
yearned for the peaceful sunny beaches of St. Augustine, a city she once fell in love with during a road trip south. Dr. Pokorny enjoys traveling, exploring, hiking, recently long walks on the beach with her dogs, national
geographic magazines, and painting.

love with veterinary work and feels that this is where she should have been all along. Colleen has been married to Michael Smith for 15 years, and together they dote over their beautiful, and very spoiled babies...Oliver, Max, Alura,
and Ari El (AKA: Psycho Kitty).
