Hugh McClelland, DVM
Dr. McClelland joined SARVEC in May 2014 as a full time emergency veterinarian. A resident of St. Johns County since elementary school, he survived the December
blizzard of 1989 and remembers when the Jaguars were actually pretty good. He graduated from Nease High School in 1997 and received his veterinary degree with
honors from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. After a rigorous yearlong internship in South Florida and three years as an emergency vet
in Gainesville, he is happy to finally be back in “The 904” with his wife Terri, daughter Picchu, son Hamilton and their two cats, Cedar and Zambrano.
Iva Pokorny, DVM
Dr. Pokorny relocated October 2014 with her 2 dogs (George and Fred), 1 cat (Garlic), and 2 turtles (Parsley and Cilantro) to beautiful St. Augustine from New York City
for the beach life and to be closer to her newly retired parents. Born in the Czech Republic, she emigrated with her parents to the Bronx at age 8, where she attended
high school and eventually went to New York University to study Biochemistry. She was on the track toward medical school, even working at a gynecology/obstetrics
practice for 6 years, but decided her love of animals needed to be a part of her career. Her biggest influence, mom, was a zookeeper at the Bronx Zoo for the past 20
years. The house was always full of animals and she spent most of her time exploring outdoors, which created a natural love of all creatures. Dr. Pokorny graduated Tufts
Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in 2009, after which she travelled Europe for 2 months before taking a position at a small animal clinic in Queens, NY. While
working at this extremely high volume fast paced clinic, she lived in Brooklyn, NY in a small shoebox apartment with a great view. Although exciting, the city environment
became overwhelming, and she yearned for the peaceful sunny beaches of St. Augustine, a city she once fell in love with during a road trip south. Dr. Pokorny enjoys
traveling, exploring, hiking, recently long walks on the beach with her dogs, national geographic magazines, and painting.

veterinary world through volunteering with the Washington Animal Rescue League's medical department. She fell in love with veterinary work and feels that this is where
she should have been all along. Colleen has been married to Michael Smith for 15 years, and together they dote over their beautiful furry and feathered-babies...Brandi,

they enjoy scuba diving and bike riding, and Colleen enjoys playing at being a photographer.
